Using the Map software help

The Web map software has been designed to be intuative so you may be able to use it straight away without reading this help.

Placing a tile on the map

Go to the right of the initial black area (use scroll bars if needed) and you will see a set of buttons. Try pressing for example the "Floors" button. You will then be shown a set of floor tiles. Click on one of the floor tiles and then hover over the large black area to the left (Which is the map) and press the '1' key. You will see that the tile has been put on the map. Now keep your finger on the '1' key and move your mouse about around the map. You will see that the tile is drawn wherever you move the mouse.

Now go to the right and above the buttons you will see a set of eraser icons. Press on the 'Erase Floors' icon and hover over a floor square that you placed down on the map before and press the '1' key. You will see the floor tile being erased.

Several tiles of different types may be put on the same map square and they will layer themselves automatically. You can for example place a 'Wall' tile on a square and then place a 'Floor' tile on the square and the 'Floor' tile will be automatically drawn underneath the 'Wall' tile.

Remember to press 'save map' after making your changes.

Adding Text to the map

Go to the 'Text' button and click on it. Fill in the Text fields and you will see the text follow your mouse as you move your mouse about. Using your mouse hover the text over the place you want to drop it on the map and press the '1' key to drop the text on the map.

There are a couple of ways to remove text from the map but the most reliable way in to press the 'Erase Text' eraser which is next to the other erasers on the top right and will list the texts on the screen so that you can select one to erase.

Remember to press 'save map' after making your changes.

Adding Pictures to the map from the Web

Pictures from the forum or from the web can be displayed on the map by pressing the picture button and then adding a http address to the box.

You can change the size and select if the image is to be drawn as background (i.e. behind all tiles)
or as foreground (i.e. on top of all tiles except figure tiles, as characters and monsters are still drawn on top of the foreground pictures)

The blue text eraser can now be used to also list these pictures and can be used to erase a picture.

To get the http address of a picture just right mouse click on it and choose properties.

Google images has a lot of pictures, although perhaps best not to use the thumb nail pictures as these have a habbit of disappearing, best to click on the thumbnail and go to the real picture that hopefull won't disappear from the web.

Pictures set as 'Foreground' and 'Background' will have the grid lines displayed on them.

Remember when adding a picture if it is set as 'Background' and there are floor tiles everywhere then you won't actually see the picture when placed as it is background and drawn under floor tiles.

To a have a picture drawn above tiles set them to 'Foreground'. 'Foreground' pictures will be drawn over all tiles except character and monster tiles.

Also you can put several pictures on top of each other and they will layer, for example put a big background picture first, then a smaller background picture over it 2nd and both pictures will be displayed, but with the 2nd one on top of the first one.

Placing a tile as a larger tile

Sometimes a player character grows due to a spell to become large and takes up 2 by 2 map squares as they are "large".

This is how you can put your character on the map as a large icon .....

1) Right click on your character icon that is on the right of the map (must be your icon to the right of the map, not any on the map).
2) Select properties and highlight and copy the picture address (This is the text starting with http).
3) Press on the "Picture" button on the map.
4) Paste the picture address into the first text box, put the height and with to 80 and IMPORTANT to set to foreground.
5) hover to the correct map position and press 1.
6) press save map as usual.

To then erase or move this larger character use the erase pic/text and be sure to erase the one that shows the picture address of your character (Note: It's probably the last one in the list if you just placed it on).
And if you can if you wish repeat the previous stages to place the character in a different position.
