Sci Fi vs Iron Kingdoms

Postby GeneT » Sat Feb 06, 2010 10:12 pm

So, I 'm thinking of running something new in the future. Not really for 3-4 months and adding to HRoT. For lots of reasons, I am waiting a couple of months. But given most of you may or may not wanna play, I thought I'd take poll of interest.

Which would be of interest....A Sci Fi game akin to Serenity/Stardrive/Dawn Rising/Rifts versus Iron Kingdoms/Steampunk/etc

Well I love the Serenity background. But i'm staying clear of games for a year so as to not get in the way of language study for about a year, so I won't vote.

But will say as I say to others, by far the best place to find players for your game is to leave an advert on www.rpgloop.net and point them back here.

Good luck man.

I don't know any of the games, but I would love to try any of them out, especially if you run them. ^^

My brother plays a RPG (unknown armies ?) where you have some kind of mental sanity points, and every time you encounter a... let's say unusual event you have to make a check to see if it doesn't traumatize your character. I bet that if you would run a game with such a mechanic all our chracter would end mad, depressive or simply crazy

I would join a new game, too. I especially like the iron kingdoms setting, don't know, wheter I'd like to play a SciFi Game.

The mental sanity can be real fun. Just imagine a pyromantic char

Sounds like Cthulhu with the word "sanity points" in it.

Iron Kingdoms - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_Kingdoms

The basic difference is that Iron Kingdoms is magic and tech in a steam punk world. Sci-Fi is futuristic in it's origin, with tech mostly.

There aren't actually sanity points in Unknown Armies (yes the name was right). It's just that when you're confronted with a "bizarre" ocurence (like a baby who is gutted but has no mouth) you have to make a mental check. If you succeed you get a cross in "hardened", if you fail you are "fragilized". Either way, get enough crosses and you're good for the asylum (just goes faster with the fragilized).

I voted Sci-Fi since I once played a game of Cyberpunk and just loved to do something else for a change ^^

Gene, are you still intending to run another game? If so, and if you'd go for Sci-Fi, How about joining forces about that Legends of the Stars thing I'm working on? I somehow have the notion that dreaming up a whole universe takes more sleep than is good for a single human brain.
The sleep of reason breeds monsters.
